Back Down the Ashby Canal

Wednesday 5th January 2022

Our plan today was to cruise to Market Bosworth and then continue on back to Stoke Golding tomorrow. However, there is snow and freezing cold weather on the way and we needed to get back to Stoke Golding today in case the canal froze over.

It was a really cold day but very sunny again and the 4 hour cruise was just lovely . We will probably stay at Stoke Golding for 2 or 3 days as we really like it here (nothing to do with the 3 very nice pubs here!).

We stayed at Stoke Golding for another 5 nights.

During which time we had some nice long walks, frequented The George & Dragon to sample one or two more Castle End ales and had a delicious Sunday beef roast with all the trimmings (and home made apple pie) cooked for us by Lady Rosemary!

Moving Day. Today’s cruise was cold and rainy - we stopped for a pump out and then moored up at Bridge 15 by The Lime Kilns pub. After popping in for a couple of pints we walked the 5 miles back to fetch the car - luckily it had stopped raining - but it felt like a long trudge through so much mud!!
