Cruising Back onto The Coventry Canal

Our Journey Today

Miles = 8

Locks = 0

Time Taken = 3 hours

We left Lime Kilns on the beautiful Ashby Canal today and cruised back on to the Coventry Canal heading for Coventry Basin as we haven’t visited there yet.

Although it was a icy start to the day, the sun was shining and it was a lovely cruise through the gorgeous countryside.  It’s sad to be leaving  the Ashby but we are looking forward to new adventures. Beautiful scenery, full of interesting places to explore and the local people were so friendly, the only downside was the muddy towpaths (but you could get that anywhere this time of the year). Simply Loved It and can’t wait to return !!!

Today we moored at Hawkesbury Junction and, of course, nipped to The Greyhound for a couple of pints.

Saturday 15th January 2022

We were planning on cruising into Coventry basin today but once again the canal is frozen - it’s been like this the last couple of days and although it’s thawed during the day previously - it’s a lot colder today and we don’t hold out much hope of the ice disappearing.  It is possible to cruise if you really need to but it doesn’t do the blacking (Blacking is the protective paint below the waterline) underneath your boat much good!  And as we have only recently had Hang Loose out of the water to have it blacked we really don’t want to damage it.
