Coventry Canal Basin to Fazeley

Our Journey

Miles = 27 Miles

Locks = 13

Time Taken = 13 Hours

We were going to leave the basin yesterday but the canal was iced over again - so we went to the pub instead! The Old Windmill on Spon Street is a great little old pub and well worth a visit!

Today is still cold but the canal is clear, it’s sunny so Paul cruised back to Hawkesbury Junction while I walked the 5 and a half miles back with Tilly and Winston.

I returned to Derby today to see family and Paul cruised to the top of Atherstone Locks. I returned to Hang Loose on Friday and met Paul at the bottom of the flight where we moored for the night. I have done these locks once or twice before so didn’t mind missing them this time around. It is a lovely mooring spot with lovely views all around.

Today is our last day cruising on the Coventry Canal (for the foreseeable future anyway). We are heading to Fazeley Junction today and turning onto the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal.

Fazeley Junction is where the Coventry Canal joins The Birmingham and Fazeley Canal. There are good moorings with The Three Tuns pub nearby and a takeaway down the road, and good internet! There’s also a canal side seat made from a balance beam where you can sit and have a good old gongoozle!

We moored up immediately after the junction and, of course, headed for the pub, followed by a Chinese takeaway. The Three Tuns is a nice pub although it was a bit noisy for us oldies tonight!

We have thoroughly enjoyed the Coventry Canal and the Ashby Canal - but now we are on uncharted waters - for us anyway. Really excited for new adventures on new canals!
